TaylorMade debuts Ghost series of white putters

Staying with the “white’’ theme as in its new R11 driver, TaylorMade-adidas Golf is a “Ghost’’ series of white putters in three models –  TM-110 (blade style), TM-770 (mid -mallet) and the TM-880 (small-mallet). Each putter carries a suggested retail price of $159.

The color, however, is just a theme. The real story of the Ghost series is TMaG’s Pure Roll titallium face insert, which the company says solves two common problems with standard putter launch performance.

Actually there is only one problem most average players have in putting. That is, they don’t make a good stroke, or they don’t make a good stroke two times in a row, therefore they get an inconsistent roll off the club face.

TMaG says the composition and construction of the Pure Roll insert is specially engineered to bring the grooves into direct and active contact with the ball during impact, even on short putts. The grooves in the face, according to TMaG, also serve in part to strategically soften the insert’s structure. Together, TMaG says, these factors make the insert deform at impact, putting the grooves into direct contact with the cover of the ball.  The result, in theory at least, is a smoother roll and better overall performance on the greens.
