ASU dropping golf management program; Acushnet sale progressing

Here’s something that will make the “all is well in the golf industry’’ people cringe. Arizona State University is dropping its PGA Golf Management program – the only one in the state and one of only 20 in the nation. The program will continue three years to allow the 173 current students to finish their degrees.

BEAM ME UP: Bruce Carboni, chairman of Acushnet Company (Titleist, FootJoy) parent Fortune Brands recently told shareholders it is making “excellent progress” toward a potential sale or spin-off of its billion-dollar golf division, as well as its home and security business.

When those are gone, Fortune Brands will be strictly a spirits company and change its name to Beam Global Spirits & Wine.
