Ping Golf isn’t known for marketing hyperbole or inflated distance claims. That’s what makes the early success of the Ping G30 driver even more impressive.
In only its second month on the market, the G30 driver achieved No. 1 sales position for units and dollars in the on- and off-course retail channels combined for the month of September in the U.S. and United Kingdom. Those numbers are according to Golf Datatech, which tracks golf equipment sell-through data for both regions.
Ping’s G30 driver
The G30 driver features what Ping Golf calls “Turbulator Technology’’ on its crown. According to the company, demand for the G30 has reached “unprecedented levels’’ as players realize increased club head and ball speeds, leading to more distance. In addition, Ping says the G30 driver also features the highest MOI (Moment of Inertia) of any Ping driver ever designed.
“Our engineering team has created a club that is impacting the driver business unlike anything we’ve seen,’’ said Ping Chariman John Solheim. “Golfers all over the world are hitting the ball farther than ever with the G30 driver, thanks to Turbulator Technology.”
The majority of Ping’s Tour staff, according to Solheim, has converted to the driver. Angel Cabrera won The Greenbrier Classic the first week the driver was on the PGA Tour. Bubba Watson also has been playing a G30 driver. Watson finished the PGA Tour season No. 1 in driving distance with an average of 314.3 yards, including launching the longest drive of the season – 424 yards – at the Bridgestone Invitational. He increased his club head speed by two miles per hour and ball speed by four mph – leading to a 10-yard distance gain during testing.
Solheim said Billy Horschel’s switch to the new driver gained him 12 yards off the tee and played a big role in helping him win the FedExCup. After putting the G30 driver in his bag, Horschel won twice, finished second and earned more than $13.4 million.
“All golfers are benefitting from the technology of the G30 driver,” Solheim said. “The Tour results speak for themselves, but we’re hearing every day from golfers of all skill levels who are commenting on how the driver has changed their games. They love the turbulators.”
