Ka-ching! New Motorola ad cashes in on Watson’s Masters win

Motorola Mobility will unveil a new ad on Thursday starring 2012 Masters winner Bubba Watson and the company’s GPS golf tracker, the MotoActv Golf Edition.

The ad, which will run in Golf World tomorrow, features Watson avidly watching his approach shot to the 10th green on the second hole of the sudden-death playoff with Louis Oosthuizen in Sunday’s finale at Augusta National. Watson signed on with Motorola Mobility earlier this year to pitch the golf version of its MotoActv GPS fitness tracker and smart MP3 player sports watch.

Watson used the wireless device, which the company says offers GPS data for more than 20,000 courses, during practice rounds last week at Augusta. With it, golfers can track their games from their wrists or belts. GPS tracks the front, center, and back distances to green and hazards, while a virtual caddy tracks shots, clubs, and key statistics.

“We wanted someone who was up-and-coming and really stood out,” Paul Nicholson, a director of marketing for Motorola Mobility, told Forbes recently about the company’s decision to employ Bubba as its pitchman. Watson’s huge length off the tee was attractive to the firm as well, Forbes noted.

You may purchase MotoActv Golf Edition at MotoActv.com or Amazon.com for $299.99.
