Nike Golf had a big party for its new 20XI golf ball last week at Doral, but it should really be celebrating its Nike Method putter. Gran ted, the Method putter isn’t new, but it keeps showing up in the bag of Tiger Woods. The Striped One, who has won all 14 of his major championships with a Titleist by Scotty Cameron Newport putter, likes the Method putter on the slower South Florida greens.
“The method putter is what I usually practice with at home,’’ Woods said after his final round 66 on the Blue Monster this past Sunday. “ I like the toe swinging. It’s a heel-shafted putter, so I enjoy the toe moving more.
“I’ve always struggled on slow greens. I’ve just never really have enjoyed putting on slow greens. The Method with the grooves, it comes off faster, and it’s worked on the slower greens, and (that’s) one of the reasons why I switched at St. Andrews (at the 2010 British Open) to it. And I played it at Chevron last year and I played it here this week. It definitely comes off faster, and especially on grainier greens like Doral.’’
