Exotics XCG5 driver
I’m a big fan of the Tour Edge Exotics XCG4 driver, so it’s exciting to see the next generation – the XCG5. The only brazed driver on the market, the XCG5 is driven (pardon the pun) in three shaft options: a light Graphite Design Tour AD 271‐ gram version, a Fujikura BLUR 306‐gram version, and an Aldila RIP 312‐gram version.
The XCG5 driver features Tour Edge’s combo‐brazing process to join the titanium face and body to an ultra‐thin beta titanium crown. The company says no other driver sold in the United States uses brazing because it’s too expensive and time consuming. Instead, most drivers weld face plates to the body to save cost. This method, according to Tour Edge, does not allow for full face flexion and maximum forgiveness like brazing.
To maximize spring‐like effect, Tour Edge says it increased the XCG5’s face size by 12 percent over previous models.
You don’t have to be an engineer to realize that the result is the golf ball coming off the club face as hot as any club face on the market.
