TaylorMade’s RBZ lucky number at Doral is 17 (VIDEO)

TMaG's new RocketBallz 3 wood

Many TayorMade-adidas Golf staff players are wearing hats with “17” on them this week at the WGC Cadillac Championship at Doral. That number signifies the number of extra yards the company players get with TMaG’s new RocketBallz 3 wood.

Actually, that’s the number the company is legally allowed to claim based on testing. Behind the scenes TMaG officials quietly say the increase can be as much as twice that of 17 yards. From personal experience I can also say the increase is well beyond 17 yards.

Reason for the added distance? TMaG says the RBZ fairway woods (and Rescue clubs) each feature a deeper face, low-and-forward center of gravity (CG) that allows its engineers to create the first steel fairway that reaches USGA/R&A speed limits. In addition, the company says that employing Pull-Face construction, and a high-strength 455 alloy steel face allowed it to combine high MOI (Moment of Inertia) with an exceptionally large face/hitting area. That is, more room for mis-hits above the center of the face.

Watch and listen as Tom Olsavsky, senior director of product creation for TMaG, describes the technology behind the RBZ fairway woods and Rescue clubs.
