Most amateurs, if given a second try at a particular shot will execute the second attempt much better. Why is this?
The main difference (and improvement) is “tension levels.” The pressure and strain from an inadequate pre-shot routine creates tension in the mind and body. Once the shot is struck unsuccessfully, the pressure of performance is instantly gone. After a few choice words. . . A second ball is thrown down, the muscles are more relaxed, and the mind and body finally become instinctive. This relaxed, intuitive state is how most people play their best golf.
Simply look, feel and sense the target and take action. Standing over your first shot for too long does not help. Create the illusion that you’ve already hit the shot and let it go. . . Hit your second shot first.
