In case anyone had the thought the Golf Channel wouldn’t benefit from becoming part of NBC Sports, viewership is up 15% this year and according the company they are “the fastest-growing network on television among those serving more than 80 million homes.”  They have had six consecutive quarters of increases since the network became part of the NBC Sports Group.

Last week’s coverage of the Barclay’s before it switched to CBS for the weekend had 35% more viewers on Thursday than last year and a whopping 116% increase Friday.

What started ten years ago as a promotion for two high end real estate developments in suburban Orlando, Fla. and grew to include two more exclusive clubs in 2011 will grow again in 2013 with the addition of Oak Tree National in Edmonton, Okla. and Primland golf resort in Dan, Va. 

The six team’s rosters will be composed of players from the two original clubs both owned by the Tavistock Group, a real estate development company with U.S. offices in Orlando, Isleworth Country Club and Lake Nona Golf & Country Club. The Albany Club in the Bahamas and Queenwood Golf Club in Surrey, England were added two years ago.

Tiger Woods, Mark O’Meara, Ernie Els, Annika Sorenstam and Sir Nick Faldo plus many other high profile golfers have competed with money raised going to charity.
