Callaway Golf sells its Top-Flite business unit

Callaway CEO Chip Brewer

Chip Brewer is quickly making his mark as president and chief executive officer of Callaway Golf Co. In the first major move under Brewer’s watch, the company has sold the Top-Flite brand to Dick’s Sporting Goods, Inc.

“The decision to sell Top-Flite reflects the company’s renewed focus and commitment to driving the proficiency of our core businesses, specifically the success of Callaway and Odyssey products,” said Brewer, who was named the Callaway top spot this past February after a successful decade leading Adams Golf.  “Our strong working relationship with Dick’s Sporting Goods went a long way towards the completion of this agreement and we look forward to their stewardship of the Top-Flite brand.”

Earlier this year, Callaway Golf completed the sale of the Ben Hogan brand, which the company acquired along with Top-Flite in 2003. Callaway basically shelved the Hogan brand after ’03. Each divestitures followed a global restructuring at Callaway Golf aimed at streamlining the organization, reducing costs and increase the focus on the company’s core business units.
