One of the more interesting things about Callaway Golf’s new Metal-X Milled putters might be their price. Available Jan. 17, the Metal-X Milled #1, #6, #9HT and 330 Mallet will carry a suggested retail price of $299.99. That’s expensive but line with the competition.
The Metal-X Milled #7 & Rossie models will carry a SRP of $349.99 – that’s only $50 less than Callaway’s new Big Bertha driver that begins shipping in February. So if you want to hit it long, try Big Bertha; if you want a better short game, give a Metal-X Milled putters try.
Callaway said the Metal-X Milled is the most “technologically advanced” milled putter on the market, featuring Metal-X roll technology for “truer, more consistent roll,” combined with crossbar technology and adjustable weighting to customize feel.
Metal-X Roll Technology, according to Callaway, features oval dimples on the face that increase the friction between the ball and the face by forming a mechanical lock during “dwell” time. Callaway said this will work with an ascending stroke to add forward rotation to the ball and aide in producing a lower launch angle.
The reduction in surface area, according to Callaway, minimizes the ball-face contact producing a quieter and softer sound.
Three sets of customizable weights allow a player to fine tune a preferred weight between 340g to 350g to 360g. The weight set options include:
- Two 10g weights
- Two 15g weights
- Two 20g weights
The Stabilizing Crossbar, according to Callaway, is visible from the back, and stiffens the face without adding much weight to stabilize sound and feel.
