Firestone Chat: Tiger Woods Bridgestone Invitational Trivia

Tiger Woods smiles during press conference leading up to this week's Bridgestone Invitational

As the golf world sits on the edge of its collective seat awaiting Tiger Woods’ most recent return to competitive golf at this week’s Bridgestone Invitational, here are a few nuggets (thanks to PGATour.com) of Tiger Trivia to chew on:

  • New caddie Byron Bell will be on Tiger’s bag for the sixth time since Woods turned pro. In addition to handling the luggage for Woods in the 1999 Buick Invitational, Bell was Woods’ bagman for a few amateur events as well.
  • Woods and ex-looper Steve Williams may exchange pleasantries — or not — out on the course. Stevie now carries for Adam Scott, who will tee off 20 minutes after Woods’ 1:40 p.m. starting time. “They will share some range space,” ESPN’s Tom Rinaldi reported.
  • Woods and good friend (one of the few remaining BFFs, given recent reports of Woods’ splits with Charles Barkley and Roger Federer) Darren Clarke have teed it up in the same group 10 times on tour. Woods has come out on top eight times but Clarke bettered him in the 2003 Firestone tilt (then known as the WGC-NEC Invitational) when he carded a second-round 70 to Tiger’s 72. Clarke, by the way, won that event as Woods finished at T4.
  • Woods has won seven times at Firestone and until last year (when he finished the event in a tie for 78th), had posted scores under par each time. In 11 starts, he has an aggregate score of 30-under and a scoring average of 67.27.

Let the games begin….

There’s a discussions of Tiger coming back and his first round going on in the forum.
