Tiger Woods working with Nike Golf’s 20XI golf ball

Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods begins his 2012 schedule at this week’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship with his custom spec Nike Golf One Tour D golf ball.  But Rock Ishii, Golf Ball Research and Development Director for Nike Golf, is confident that sometime this year the Striped One will switch to Nike’s 20XI golf ball. The majority of Nike Golf’s PGA Tour staff players are using the 20XI, which the company rolled out (pardon the pun) the middle of 2011.

Ishii said Woods hasn’t switched to 20XI yet because he wants to get his swing where he wants it.

“I had a session with him last week and it was probably the most productive one we’re had in the past two years,” Ishii said today at the PGA Merchandise Show’s Demo Day at Orange County National Golf Center near Orlando. “He’s getting ready (to switch) but still needs some tweaking. His swing change is giving us a slightly different spin number, especially with irons, so we need to tweak it. But it’s going to happen.”

It will be interesting to see how soon Eldrick makes the switch. He’s not the kind to make any hasty decisions – even for Nike Golf.
