And you thought it was going to be a dull summer. Not after Tuesday, May 21, the U.S. Golf Association and Royal and Ancient Golf Club of
St. Andrews, Scotland, will announce a final decision on anchoring at a joint conference at 8 a.m. Eastern time.

Golf’s ruling bodies are expected to ban the use of players “anchoring” long putters and belly putters against any parts of their bodies. Ironically, the announcement of the final decision comes one day after Keegan Bradley, one of the best known players using a belly putter, shot a course record 60 yesterday at the Byron Nelson at TPC Las Colinas.
The decision, if it comes down as expected, won’t ban the use of long and belly putters, but severely limit how they can be used.
The PGA Tour and PGA of America each have voiced their concerns regarding a potential anchoring ban, meaning that next week, the
ball once again will in the court, particularly in that of the PGA Tour and Commissioner Tim Finchem.
All parties concerned have said they don’t want a power struggle over the issue, but that appears to be where this is going, particularly of the Tour balks at the ban, which would begin in 2016.
