Cobra Golf, which went white with its drivers last year, is now going orange. The company’s new AMP driver features a black PVD and orange details on the shaft, club head and grip. The colorful look reflects that sister company Puma’s marquee, Rickie Fowler, and should Cobra stand out on retail shelves. Not coincidentally, the colors of Oklahoma State, Fowler’s alma mater, are orange and black.

That’s the color story. The AMP driver’s technology story is that it features Cobra’s Adjustable Flight Technology that the company says provides golfers with the option to set the face angle as Open, Neutral or Closed to optimize ball flight for better distance and accuracy. The Aldila RIP Speed Tuned shafts have progressive weight designs that customize performance for various swing speeds.
Cobra says AMP Speed Tuning works in conjunction with the shaft to optimize each loft differently to deliver the best performance for a given club head speed. That’s one way Cobra is looking to appeal to golfers of all skill levels. The other is with an offset version of the AMP driver that Cobra says reduces the effect of a slice. Cobra, which was at the forefront of offset technology more than two decades ago, is one of the few companies that still offers an offset driver.
Each driver also features Cobra’s E9 Face Technology with dual roll that utilizes an elliptical shape face. According to the company, that that gives the AMP driver a 30 percent larger Sweet Zone, resulting in more distance, accuracy and forgiveness in shots hit from the low heel to high toe.
The AMP driver and AMP Offset driver each will be available beginning Feb. 10. The AMP driver will carry a shelf price of $299 and the AMP Offset driver will have a shelf price of $249.
