An inside look at TMaG's Penta TP5 golf ball
TaylorMade-adidas Golf says nearly every member of its 2012 Tour staff will make the transition to the new Penta TP5, including Dustin Johnson, Jason Day, Sergio Garcia, Martin Kaymer, Darren Clarke and Justin Rose. Kaymer and Clarke each played the original Penta TP en route to winning their first major championships.
Consumers will be able to play the ball beginning Fe. 3. The Penta TP5 will carry a street price of $45.99 per dozen.
“The Penta TP5 was created for our tour pros, yet it’s a great ball for every level of player,” said John Kawaja, TaylorMade executive vice president. “You don’t need to have a fast swing speed to achieve excellent distance with the Penta TP5.”
The performance of the Penta TP5 is rooted in its five-layer construction — cover, outer mantle, middle mantle, inner mantle and core – which is engineered to optimize performance in five key shot categories that skilled players need – driver, long-irons, middle-irons, short-irons and partial wedges.
Key to the increased performance of the Penta TP5, according to Kawaja, is a 28 percent lower core compression, combined with TMaG’s Progressive Velocity Design. The result, Kawaja said, is lower driver spin for more distance and soft feel.
Kawaja said the Penta TP 5’s faster outer mantle and cast urethane cover delivers the amount of spin in the scoring zone that gives players with slower swing speeds the added control to get up-and-down more often without sacrificing distance performance.
