It Was Good While It Lasted

It might sound like a lame excuse but a long lasting knee injury put paid to my ambitions of remaining in single figures all season. After achieving my goal in my #getunder10 programme in the first qualifying competition I have slipped back up to 10.0.

The main problem has been lack of play and practice due to a very sore right knee which is now slowly responding to treatment. However I have to confess to losing the competitive edge as well after hitting target so early in the season.  I’d guess this is the mental problem faced by so many people. You seem to lose your hunger and then step off the pedal.

The Chimp Paradox

From Dr. Steve Peters’ “The Chimp Paradox”

There is great quote from Dr Steve Peters in his book “The Chimp Paradox” which sums up why some sportsmen excel and others fail: “If people are functioning at an 85 per cent level of their capacities they tend to be happy and complacent and skip the last 15 per cent. But that is where the trivial details that make the difference tend to be.”

So my season started on a high and ended on a low…it’s back to the winter programme for me and it starts here.
