Connecticut Course Worker Killed in Sprayer Accident

A 30-year employee of the Portland (Conn.) Golf Course died Saturday from injuries sustained during an accident two days earlier.

According to published reports, Andrew B. Sloan of Colchester, Conn. was driving a three-wheel Cushman Turf-Truckster with a spray tank on the back. He apparently was on a hill at about 8:30 a.m. when the vehicle rolled over pinning him underneath. Golfers called 911 and they, along with rescue personnel, pulled him from underneath the vehicle.

Sloan was first taken to Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, Conn. then transferred to Hartford Hospital where he died.

The Middletown Press newspaper reported that police are looking into the possibility that a “medical emergency” may have played a role in the accident.

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.
