Buzz getting stronger than McIlroy might go to Nike Golf

Reports are becoming more frequent that world No. 1 Rory McIIroy is on the verge signing a deal with Nike Golf for as much as $25 million a year over 10 years. The deal, if made, would take McIlroy out of the Titleist equipment camp and presumably set him up not only with Nike clubs but with Nike attire as well.

If it happens, it will be interesting to see if the Irishman also has to replace his Jumeirah Hotels & Resorts logo cap with a Nike Swoosh.

Such a deal makes sense for Nike Golf, given the fact that its marquee player, Tiger Woods, will be 37 years old at the end of this year and isn’t the player he once was. Besides, Nike Golf hasn’t really used Woods much in its marketing campaigns the past couple of years since the uh, wreck in Orlando.

True, the Striped One still commands a lot of attention – and rightfully so – but McIlroy is the Golden Child on the PGA Tour. And Nike always goes for the gold.
