McIlroy says changing equipment won’t make a difference

This week’s DP World Tour Championship in Dubai will be Rory McIlroy’s last hooray with Titleist equipment. The world’s No. 1 ranked player is expected to play Nike Golf clubs and balls next year. Depending on the report, McIlroy has is on the verge of signing – or has signed – a deal with Nike that is worth up to $250 million over 10 years.

McIlroy said this week in Dubai he isn’t concerned about switching equipment.

“I’ve tinkered about a little bit with the new ones, enough to feel comfortable going into next season,” McIlroy said. “I think all the manufacturers make great equipment nowadays and it’s all very similar. A lot of them get their clubs made at the same factories. I don’t think it will make any difference.”

Nike Golf has to hope that’s not necessarily the case.
