It didn’t take TaylorMade-adidas Golf long to record the first PGA Tour victory for its new R11S driver. Johnson Wagner, a new member of the TMaG tour staff, won the Sony Open this past weekend with the white driver.
The victory, combined with Wagner’s 10th place finish at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, moved him to the top of the 2012 FedExCup points race.
“I told my wife that I was going to win early,” Wagner said. “I told my parents and my brother and my trainer who is going to be there next week; I tried to get him to fly out here this week but he had to drive out to Palm Springs.
“But yeah, I was definitely telling people to expect something early this year, which is a nice feeling. Usually my confidence is low. I’m kind of shy in a little shell, and I for some reason just had way more energy and confidence going into this year.”
In addition to the R11S driver, Wagner also played a TMaG Burner SuperFast 2.0 fairway wood (15 degrees).
