Can it really be almost a decade since the Spartans bounced basketballs on the deck of a San Diego-based aircraft carrier against North Carolina in a game attended by President Barack Obama? The MSU football team had been back in what’s billed America’s Finest City for the 2017 Holiday Bowl, and I decided it was time to revisit the area, too.
I’d heard the Mission Bay Resort had renovated and re-opened as a “beach chic” waterfront property with definite Southern California theming and cultural cuisine. I found the property to be dotted with palm trees shading areas around a free form swimming pool and Jacuzzis with adjacent fire pits. The Plaza Del Sol patio has festive strings of lights and Solrisa Mexican poolside stand offers a ritual as the sun sets over the bay (and Sea World.)
