Pettersson uses the proper (Nike) Method at Harbour Town

The putter Carl Pettersson credited with helping him win the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town this past weekend was a Nike Golf Method Prototype putter he’s been using on and off this year. Pettersson, who has used a long putter for the past 14 years, used the same putter to finish T2 at Sony this year and second at the Shell Houston Open.

“It puts a nice roll,” on the ball, Pettersson said.

Don’t look for the putter in your local golf shop. Nike Golf doesn’t sell that particular head shape. But for the record, it’s a 49-inch putter with two degrees of loft.

The head shape is also played by Nike Golf staffer Simon Dyson. Dyson, however, plays a standard length putter.

Pettersson also used a Nike VR Pro STR8-Fit drive with a 11.5 degrees of loft – unusually high for a Tour player. He also played a TaylorMade Burner fairway wood (14.5 degrees); Nike VR Pro hybrid (21 degrees); a Nike VR_S Forged 4 wood; Nike VR Pro Combo (5-PW); Nike VR Pro Forged wedges (49, 55, 60); and a Nike 20XI golf ball.

I love Carl Petterson’s unorthodox swing and ball stiking but I have to say the long putter needs to go the way of the Dodo bird. Its bad enough having to watch tour pros look like lame-ass croquet players but to have to watch amateurs do the same is too much. Arnie and Tiger say ban them and my guess is Nicklaus and Player do too. What’s stopping the golfing authorities from acting on this abomination? Collusion with the manufacturer’s?
