Swing Change? Proper Golf Posture First!

The starting golf posture will affect the entire golf swing.  Too often, students start to analyze and blindly change their golf swings before even assessing their starting position.  (Club face and body alignment can also be included in this category, but will be saved for another discussion).

Setting a proper spine angle and creating an athletic position for the body to move from can be influenced by bad habits and physical impairments.  The Titleist Performance Institute refers to the improper spine angles at “C” posture (unnecessary rounding of the upper back) and “S” posture (excessive arching of the lower back).

Stronger abdominals will encourage a neutral spine and a more powerful set up posture.  Perfect your posture before diving into major swing changes.
