“One-Size-Fits-All Applies Only to Earrings”

Yes, an often overlooked accessory does provide insight to playing golf. After all, golf resembles life, and of course life is golf. Earrings always seem to fit even if our skinny jeans are covered in dust and buried in the back of the closet.

Outfits and accessories aside, take a look at the tour players: across the board, everyone approaches the game differently. So why do we expect our golf games to fit a particular mold?

First we must discover our body’s limitations. We can choose to improve the body for better golf (highly recommended!). Or we can stay with what we’ve got and find a swing that works with our limitations. Either way, knowing the body’s limitations will dictate how we swing the golf club. (Remember, we want a swing that repeats under pressure for our body type. It doesn’t have to be pretty, but it has to perform and also not cause injury).

Secondly, we must discover our “zone state”. What is it like when we play well? Is it a clear, relaxed mind? Is it a clear picture of the target in our mind’s eye? Can we feel the shot we are about to make? Do we sense our internal timing and rhythm? Which one of these is dominant for you? Not everyone is the same. Some of us are more visual while others are feel players. There is no right or wrong. Only your perfect fit.

So don’t try to be someone else on the golf course (or in life). Your little black dress will always be in style and you can accessorize with your favorite earrings. . .guaranteed to always fit (and leave the skinny jeans with the old 1 iron. . .in the garage where they belong. Don’t even try to make them work, remember, not even God can hit a 1 iron!)
