While I haven’t stayed there myself, everything about Monarchs House, in St. Andrews, suggests it’s worth a visit. With seven bedrooms and baths, a drawing room with stocked bar and fireplace, a gleaming modern kitchen, and an address that would make Old Tom Morris jealous, it seems perfect for families or double foursomes. The Inn even has a silver replica claret jug in the foyer, and if nobody’s watching, you could fill it with champagne (or Diet Coke, if you’re John Daly) and pretend you just won the Open Championship.
Even better, owners are currently offering two chances to win a week’s stay, valued at about 8,500 pounds. One drawing is open to loyal patrons who’ve stayed at Monarchs House before. The other is a drawing open to any visitor to their website (monarchshouse.com) who leaves a comment on why you’d like to visit St. Andrews. And a week’s stay at this elegant hostelry would seem reason enough, though we don’t suspect you’ll win just for saying that. But if that’s ample commentary, we hope they’ll consider us eligible.
2011 marks Monarchs House’s 10th anniversary.
